“God of War” (2025) is an Iranian historical war drama directed by Hossein Darabi and produced by Saeed Saadi. Premiering at the 43rd Fajr Film Festival, the film draws inspiration from the Iran–Iraq War, specifically focusing on the scientific and strategic efforts behind Iran’s missile development. While it pays homage to Hassan Tehrani Moghaddam—the father of Iran’s missile program—the story is told through the eyes of one of his close comrades, offering a more personal take on national defense.

The film centers on this comrade, portrayed by Saed Soheili, who reflects on his experiences during the war. Through his narration, viewers witness key moments in Iran’s defense efforts, including the behind-the-scenes struggles and sacrifices made by engineers and military personnel. This personal perspective brings emotional depth to the story and highlights the lesser-known figures who shaped history from the background.

Rather than focusing solely on battlefield action, God of War explores themes of duty, sacrifice, intellect, and faith. It portrays war not just as a matter of physical combat, but as a test of endurance, unity, and innovation. The film emphasizes the value of science and strategy, showing how minds, not just weapons, played a crucial role in securing the nation’s survival.

Visually, the film blends historical realism with cinematic intensity. Shot at Sacred Defense Cinema City—a set designed for war epics—it captures the gritty atmosphere of the 1980s conflict with precision. Through thoughtful cinematography, sound design, and character-driven storytelling, God of War delivers a powerful tribute to Iran’s unsung heroes and the quiet strength behind monumental change.
